New menaing to expression, "Wall Of Sound"

Ever want a room of wall to wall speakers? How about a room where the walls are speakers? Or a bed with a speaker on top of your mattress but under your covers (oh yeah). Maybe even a scarf speaker? Or speaker boxers! To get back on point, Korean research firm announced that it has developed the technology that will enable to mass producing of these flat speakers that are as flexible as a piece of fabric. Apparently you only need to cut out your desired shape and connect to an amp. One word, two syallables...sockspeaker. I'm.A.Genius. You're welcome.

  Worldest smallest battery

This is a small battery. Developed by theYRP Ubiquitous Networking Laboratory, the 2 hour lasting cube sized battery is 15x15x15mm. Practical application? No clue but I'm sure someone can use it to crank out some kind of digital audio player. It's all the rage these days. More details here via i4u.

  For all you Macintosh havers
Here's and article from MacFixit on how to properly prepared you Mac for the system shock that is Tiger. That may be a little exaggeration, but hey, nobody likes to lose their data. Unless you're LexisNexis, Zing!

  Lazy man home theatre

For all you lazy players out there here is the Pyramat Sound Lounger. Hook up basically anything audio to it and feel the boom. Pop in a nature cd and put yourself to sleep. This looks perfect for those late night new game exploits. I would probably have to bring in some extra pillows though, might be too awkward with just my head up against the back. Need one now? get it directly from Amazon here

Kevin Smith likes Star Wars Revenge of the Sith, a little
K Smith geeks out over the last Star Wars flick, Revenge of the Sith. His review (seen/read here) is pretty spoiler heavy so if you're not going to read it, he loved the hell out of the movie. His whole review can be summed up with his ending sentence:
"Sith" doesn't happen; "Sith" rules.
I have my 12:02a ticket for the weds it'll be coming out, I'll be all over it and let you all know how it is from a male 18-24 yr old movie-goer perspective. I'm not an obessed Star Wars fan or anything so I won't be biased. I promise.

  The WEE man cometh...

The European Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive is set to become law in Summer 2005. The directive's aim is to reduce the amount of electric trash filling up the UK landfills. That and to bring nightmares to childern everywhere! The WEE man is a 23 foot high composition of the electronic trash generated by the average UK citizen. Quote from the website:
Its main aim is to reduce the amount of WEEE going to landfill

DVD and MPEG4 video to go

This is nice. It's the DVD-LX95 portable dvd and mpeg4 player. It comes with a 9" TFT panel , an integrated tv tuner and an FM transmitter. Those specs are nice and all but what good is a portable DVD player if the battery only last 20 minutes. No worries, the DVD-LX95's battery will enable you to watch 6 hours of movies in DVD mode. Expected sales price is around 590 EUR. Mored details here.

  Voice recording watch

The Thanko Corporation will be adding voice recorder functions to their analog MP3 watch that is set to be released on April 29th. The 128MB unit costs 12,800 yen, the 256MB model 15,800 yen, and the 512MB model 19,800 yen. The device also supports the playback of MP3 at bitrates up to 356kbps. You have to use a USB 1.1 connection to transfer music to the watch from your pc but who needs speed anyway? You can now freak out everyone in your near vicinity in your local airport. Talk into your watch like your some kind fo special agent about to take someone out and then shout, "i'm taking him out!" while you tackle some random person to the cheers to hoorahs of the unknowing onlookers who think they've just witness a agnet of some sort take down a threat. You'll be a hero, at least until your tacklee gets back up and chases you down for tackling him for no reason. Life of a hero is not easy work. More details on the watch here.

  Skype for your mobile device

I know this story is a little aged but anyhoo, Skype is planning to release an Embedded Linux, Symbian or Windows Mobile version sometime later this year. As freidnly as our government and large telecomm companies are, I wouldn't expect Sype Mobile editions to debut without any troubles. With Skype, who needs a long distance carrier? The ensuing fight could be cool to watch unfold though. More details here.

The Samsung YH-J50 and Samsung YH-J70 get priced

More details on the Samsung YH-J50 and Samsung YH-J70. Seems like the smaller 5GB YH-J50 will run about 299 Korean Won (299 USD) with the bigger 30GB YH-J70 to run about 579 Won (579 USD). If these prices seems a little high it's because they are. No word yet on any kind of special functionality that will set these apart from the competition and justify the higher price tag. from dapreview.

  Vodoo Knife holder

This is cool. This Voodoo 5-knife holder is now available from ViceVersa for $40.00. You just have to let them know how many you want and pay $20.00 (via paypal) up front, which is a bit odd. From gizmodo.

  Musical balls ooze coolness

From Elecom in Japan comes some balls that rock. Not much inforation on them spec wise but they sure do look purty! Carry them around and swing at people with poor music tastes. Don't carry them in your pocket though. I'm thinking that wouldn't look right. More details here...via dapreview.

Here's a TV tray equivalent for you laptop. Looks like this will make it easier to use your laptop on your couch or bed. Now if I can only get some kind of swivel laptop tray mounted to my toilet, I would have it made in the shade with lemonade. More details here...via akihabara.

  Unleash the beast

More and more Tiger reviews are coming out and to nobody's surprise, the reviewers are giving it massive amounts of praise. With all these new features they're intorducing, you have to wonder why is it taking Microsoft so long to come out with anything new? Google's turing out fast product these days, as are Yahoo and Apple. Why doesn't Microsoft seems exciting any more? Who knows. Hopfully they'll get a clue soon or they're going to be left choking on the dust of the company's that did things better and faster. Check out Apple Tiger reviews from Slashdot.

Zombies galore in George Romero's latest

Here's a trailer for George Romero's latest visual opus. This totally looks like something you can bring Grandma and the kids to . I'm sure someone will bring their newborn to see it, someone always does. I'm all for Romero and I know he's MR. Zombie and all, but I thought the Dawn of the Dead remake that came last year was brain-popping good. It was intense, fun, gory....all that good stuff. I went back to the original and it was alright. I just dug the faster zombies and the action elements. I know Land of the Dead will have the slower zombies and that looks to be a good thing. This trailer looks pretty intense and gory. Both of which are pre-requisites for a good zombie movie. Am I an expert? No. I just no what I like, and I likes the zombies!!! Grab a leg to chew on and check out the trailer here.

  Two hand the Siemens SK65

Gizmag loves the new Siemens SK65 mobile phone. It looks cool and it's good to see something unique like it's flip out from underneath full qwerty(that's such an easy word to type on a qwerty-board) keyboard. It also comes with 64MB of memory, a 132x176 TFT screen, and bluetooth compatibility. It also has some Blackberry features like the push-down email. That in itself is pretty cool. It addition to email, it supposedly offers full Outlook calendar access as well. More details here

  Batman gonna rock joo!

Batman is looking to be pretty dope in the latest trailer. Christian Bale was freaking perfect for this role. He pulls off the whole "maybe-slightly-off-his-rocker" Batman vibe. This looks quite engrossing. I'm starting to get excited for this one. Large quicktime trailer here.

  Huge Touchscreen LCD

Here is the "Tactive" 40 inch LCD touch screen from ActiveLight. For only $7,999 you too can get in on this latest technology for the digital sinage industry. I'm guess the digital sinage industry is for digital signs and the like? I wonder if they have a digital billboard in the works. I could see a touchscreen billboard against the side of a huge building where muiltiple people can come up and maybe play some sort of game against each other. But it would probably end up like most pulic touch screens do, screen cracked or scratched up. Take a look at your local Best buy or WalMart Nintendo DS display. Every store I've been to, it always broken! Down with touchscreen violence! sorry, got carried away, more about this digital sign here.

LG VX 9800 specs come out

Some specs of the LG VX 9800 have begun to surface. This CDMA phone features EV-DO data speed, a 1.3 megapixel camera with flash in addition to MPEG4 video streaming capabilities. It has an external numeric keypad with a 128x160 screen and flips open sideways to reveal stereo speakers, a full qwerty keyboard and a 320x256 screen. The speakers should be fun to play with.

Nokia N70 the smallest multimedia computer

Amsterdam reports: Nokia showed off the Nokia N70 or what they like to call it, "the world's smallest multimedia computer". Interesting. It's pretty small, coming in at a weight of 126g and even comes with a hot swappable RS-MMC/SD card slot for more storage. The Nokia N70 also pack a VGA camera as well as a 2 megapixel camera. The phone will also come with some image editing capabilities and support for Adobe's photo album software. The Nokia N series phones are looking like they could be all the rage later this year. This model is due out Q3 2005. More info here.

Nokia N91 Multimedia phone packs a 4 GB HD

Check out the Nokia N91 multimedia funk and groove phone (funk and groove my description). It has a 4 GB hard disk and a 3.5mm stero headset jack so you can get even more distracted on the go. It can play up to 12.5 hours of music and support MP3, M$a, AAC and WMA. You can transfer your music from your PC to the Nokia N91 multimedia phone via USB 2.0. You can also make use of WCDMA, WLAN and Bluetooth technology. What is cool about this offering, is that you can share your playlist with your friends by multimedia message, email or bluetooth. Nice. Lifehacker points out Brian Livingston's article on how to basically tweak Firefox to your liking. I would especially recommend the tweak to fix the memory leak. Leaks bad, tweaks good!

  Joss "Buffy" Whedon's Serenity Trailer

The trailer for Serenity is now up and I must say it looks pretty badass. "I aim to misbehave"...about time someone comes up with some unique quotable material. This looks like a pretty good flick. I never caught the show so I was never able to get wrapped up in these characters but I'm intrigued just by watching this trailer. I think the bigger budget was a boon to this universe. On TV it looked just alright. Now it looks pretty slick. The whole, "I don't murder children..", "well I do." is pretty, umm, not cool but, intense? Oh well check out the larger quicktime trailer here...I only linked to large since that the only way to go. Full screen is just a pain.

The Whitaker Foundation: Robotic Therapy Device for Stroke Recovery
Bioengineers from Arizona State University and Kinetic Muscles Inc. have built a robotic exoskeleton arm to aid in the retraining of limbs for stroke survivors. Apparently this kind of rehabilitation is damn expensive, taking up to 4% of the national health budget (according to the National Institue of Health). The thought goes that stroke survivors would be able to use these exoskeletons (maybe in the comfort of their own homes?) instead of having a personl trainer work with them. This would be more cost effective and make therapy more widely available, or at least that's what I think. But hey, I'm no expert. More info here via BoingBoing

Start your day with a struggle

Is your alarm clock too easy to turn off? Become your own worst enemy with this Sea Anemone Clock from aaron tang. What makes this alarm clock different than others is the fact that when the alarm goes off it bounces away from where it sat and rumbles intensely, causing it to jump all over your room, forcing you to track it down to turn it off. By the time you actually turn it off, you'll be pretty awake and probably slightly pissed. Sign me up. More pain-in-rump-clocks here.

Get your video onto your Sony PSP and Nintendo DS...at 15fps?

Here's a pretty slick video recorder that will record your videos in MPEG4 onto memory stick cards that will be compatible with your Sony PSP and/or Nintendo DS. The only gripe I have with this device is that the resulting video will be 15fps. This isn't all that great and could make the video a little choppy. What's up with that?

Forced hibernation (suspended animation) could be beginnings of space travel
Mark Roth and his team at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, have successfully put some lab mice into a state of suspended animation by basically forcing hibernation by exposing them to the oh-so-smelly hydrogen sulphide. Essentially putting the oxygen needing functions in their cells on pause. After 20 minutes the mice were revived by freah air with no ill effects. While in this deep sleep, their metabolic rates dropped by 90% and their bobdy tempreatures dropped from 37 degress celcius to 15 degrees celcius. This is huge. It's a step of sorts toward long interstellar flights. Possibly enabling astronauts (and probably commerical space travellers) to sleep for long periods of time without worrying about needing oxygen. I can see the first time this is tested on humans, "Alright, who did it? Who let it rip? Seriously guys, that is the last thing I want to smell before we.....*thud*...*snore*". Awsome. More details here.

Soon is apparently a couple of weeks
Looks like the Creative Zen Nano does exist (reported earlier here). It's going to be available in 10 colors and begin at 256MB (up to 1GB). Thanks to an anonymous tip and Generation MP3.

The perfect watch for danger-loving fishermen

Into the whole shrimp-boat-captain thing? or maybe you're more of a Perfect Storm type of fisher. In any case, Casio has the watch for you. It's called the Casio GW-400J-1JF. It's vibrateable (yeah, i made that word up...so what), solar powered and has tide information for 100 locations. It's also water proof and if you ever get knocked overboard, it can give you the water temperature . It can also give you the air temperature when you're not gasping for air underwater. Cool. more details here via akihabaranews.

Summer debut for Frontier Labs lucking fovely MP3 players

lucking fovely MP3 players from Frontier Labs. Their new line of MP3 players, the NEX 3 and NEX 3+, will come in 4 colors with an SD card slot and no internal memory. It will support MP3 and WMA and it's 128x64 LCD display will not be a color display. Sounds alright. I think people would buy this for the look since it's not too advanced tech wise.check them out on Frontier Lab's website, via i4u.

  Picture Voice Recorder from Sony

In Japan (of course), Sony introduced their new Visual Voice Recorder dubbed the ICD-CX50. It can hold 256MB worth of data and it comes with a 1.3 megapixel camera and a 1.2" LCD screen, whose maximum resolution is 1280x960.   Verizon DSL not real naked...yet
Om Malik from gigaom got a hold of a Verizon PR erson who clarified that the "naked" DSL offering was only for exisitng broadband customers.
In 13 states if you are an existing customer of ours - you can port your voice number to non Verizon local voice provider, and do not have to drop the DSL,” she said. “That’s really what its all about. Its limited and first step. we should be rolling out soon enough. If customers don’t want a phone number but want to keep DSL, why wouldn’t we do that.”
. But with the infrastructure uprgades they are going through, expect Verzion DSL to be available in an area near you...somewhat soon.

MobileBurn.com has a review up for the 2-megapixel NEC N840. Basically the camer is a good camera. The MP3s you can play from off of it's internal memory or via mini-SD card, sounded well and the pictures it took were pretty good (a little yellow tint). One of the downsides is, the phone isn't bluetooth enabled. Bummer.

Where do you use your wireless connection?
Silicon Valley Watcher noticed an interesting little tidbit from a study Yahoo and Mediaedge:cia released today. Apparently (and not so surprisingly) 21% of wireless users make use of their wireless connection on the can. From Silicon Valley Watcher

A surprising 21 percent use their wireless access in the bathroom. No matter the location, study participants agree that this freedom of choice is resulting in even more integrated experiences.

It doesn't say what exactly these people are in the bathroom for in the first place, ahem, but I would love to get a laptop to replace my usual toliet university reading.

  Sempron-powered goodness

Here is Sharp's latest Sempron-powered (?) laptop, the PC-CS50J. It will come with a 1.6ghz processor, 14" XGA screen, 256mb ram and a 40gb hd. No idea how the Sempron performs but I think it needs more RAM. 256mb is so 1999.

  Professional grade RW Blu-Ray disc

woah. Here's the PD-RE23CN 23GB rewriteable BluRay disc from TDK. That sucker is flipping huge (storage wise). It'll be available for professionals this summer and probably won't be cheap. Which means we're still a little ways, not too far though, from seeing a consumer version. article here

  NEC gets into medical LCDs

Check out this LCD medical screen from NEC specifically for doctors (as if the medical didn't give that away). It comes in 2 flavors. Color and monochrome (for x-rays?). Both are supposedly enhanced by "super-advanced, super-fine (like myself) TFT" which makes them a bit brighter. More here.

Shure's latest headphones worth the price?

Here's an article regarding the ear-fitting-and-pleasing $300 Shure E4c earphones for the iPod. Apparently these latest earphones keep up Shure's traditional awsome quality and sound but at the same time, they are a lot easier to clean (icky wax build up, it happens to the best of us) since you can take it apart. Whether or not this makes it worth more than Shure's other excellent earphones is up to you. I personally don't want to pay te same price of an iPod for one of it's accessories but that just me. Need to get some Shure Headphones? Buy some dirct from Amazon here

  Most accurate timepiece....ever
via Gadgetryblog comes word of TAG Heuer's most accurate watch/timepiece they have ever created. Apparently it measures and displays time to the 1/100th of a second due to it's high frquency balance whell which oscillates at 360,000 beats per hour. I have a pretty accurate timepiece too, it called my desktop alarm clock. I doubt I would ever see the differnce or attempt to count the 360,000 beats per hour but it'd be a great watch for my kids to take to their show and tell.

  Intel announces WiMax chip
In a move set to infuriate the home wireless network extender market, Intel is to announce their partner-backed WiMax chips today. It will have the ability to pump out a wireless signal in an approximate radius of 5-miles, making it a lot easier to reach homes/building where tunneling hi-speed cable wasn't possible or too expensive Hopefully this will help the U.S. get back into the high-speed race. The reason this is a big deal is because of all the companies backing Intel like AT&T, Qwest, Siemens, Texas Instruments and British Telecom. more detailshere

  Adobe scoups up Macromedia
This kind of surprised me, Adobe has agreed to buy Macromedia for $3.4 billion (all-stock). You can bet the some Macromedia products will probably be going away since some of them seemed like direct competitors to Adobe's flagship products. Like Fireworks and Freehand. Who would choose those products over Illustrator and Photoshop? I hope thell combine what those programs did well and incorporate those features into Adobe's existing lineup. It will be weird to open up Flash and see an Adobe icon. Hell has frozen over. See the press release here.

Sony begins to play nice with others.

In a move that I didn't expect, Sony Europe has announced the NAS(Network Audio System)-CZ1 which has the ability to stream music from your pc. What I ddin't expect was this player to play more than some funky proprietary Sony format. It'll automatically connect to all kinds of music jukeboxes including iTunes and Musicmatch thru the M-crew software. The Sony NAS-CZ1 will pay MP3s, WAVs, OMGsm WMAs and AACs. More info here.

PSP owners drive memory stick shortage
From cnet comes a story about Sony PSP owners gobbling up all the SanDisk memory sticks they can find, leaving none for anyone else. They're so popular, people are even asking for 2GB sticks. The 2GB sticks aren't available yet but should be out in two-three months. Full story here
If you need to buy some more memory for your Sony PSP, get some gitchu here.

Virtual Keyboard makes it seem like you really are working!

If you're a Palm phreak, you might dig this. It's called the "VKB Bluetooth Virtual Keyboard". It projects a full keyboard onto any flat surface using lasers and sensors to detect your virtual keystrokes. Vote on it's coolness at cnet. Gotta have this now? Buy from Amazon right here.

  Was the Sony PSP underclocked?
Seems like the Sony PSP might have been underclocked on purpose in a possible attempt to improve the PSP's battery life. If overclocked, it might be able to get PS2 quality performance which would be dang-slick-as-a-stick. I wonder if Sony (or anyone, a hacker perhaps...I wonder if it would void any kind of warranty) would release an update to unlock this. Check out the details here. via kotaku.

Some Nice LCDs to come out in May

Video tracking used to make interactive stories

Now this is cool. Some people at the National University of Singapore and Osaka University have developed a very unique way of telling a story by using video tracking in tandem with a cube with pictures on it. Each side of the cube has a picture which correlates to a different part of the story. As you flip the various sides, a different part of the story plays on the computer screen. Amazing implications for interactive story telling. My kids would be all over this. more info here even video.  Posted by Hello

According to this report on Yahoo, Amazon has been trying to work a deal with either Netflix or Blockbuster as opposed to trying to jump in between them and build up their own service. Blockbuster and Netflix are going to war to win the DVD mail in rental crown. Blockbuster spent $99 million on customer acquisitions last year and has stated that they plan to spend $120 million this fiscal year. That's a lotta dough and I don't think Netflix's pocket are deep enough. So far though, I prefer Netflix only because they kind of grew on me. I did hear about how they would delay shipping your movies fast it you order too many movies, that fact I don't like. But hey, they need to turn a profit too so I guess I can understand.  Posted by Hello

160GB Serial ATA Hard Drive

  Sony is for the cooks
Sony is planning on releasing two 15 inch WEGA LCD TVs, the "KLV-15SP2" and "KLV-15AP2". What makes these Sony LCD TVs different is that they will have a "Memo" feature which will let you freeze a frame of the show you're watching while the program continues on in the background. This will make it nice for people who watch cooking shows, car shows or any other shows that would put up directions or recipies or something that you would need to refer back to. Pause it on that frame and go back to it as needed. That's if you don't have photographic memory. More details here and the press release here Posted by Hello

Their monthly calling plan has it's price dropped as well, from $29.95 down to the gotta-have-it-now-well-wait-let-me-think-about-it-price of $19.95. Do you think this will help? The Newport Beach based company hopes to develop a system to deliver games, sports, movies, and tv shows (basically multimedia content) to tvs and computers via the internet.   A fridge that makes your greens, greener!
From food lovers at Mitsubishi Electric comes a fridge that makes your fridge food healthier. It uses orange-colored LED that help promote photosynthesis in greens in your fridge. Promoting photosynthesis helps the greens stay green longer and increases their vitamin c content. With my vitamin supplements and my chewable vitamin c pills that I already take (paranoid about being sick), one wonders how much vitamin c is too much. I also wonder how I can import this bad boy since we don't really have anything like it here...yet. more details here via Popgadget Posted by Hello

Is this a picture of the new Creative Zen Nano? The flash-based Creative Zen Nano is to come in 512md and 1gb versions but will it be just a renamed Creative Muvo Mico or will it come with something new like a screen or photo/video functionality, or your personal robot butler.   OLED? more like OYESPLEASE
OLEDs (organic light emitting diodes) are beginning to catch on, and for good reason. First of all, the screens refresh faster so they play video better and the can display nearly four-times as many colors as a same size LCD screen can. OLEDs are also electroluminescence (say that 5 times fast jumping backwards...cause i said so!) meaning they emit their own light. That makes them a bit brighter and sharper, even when viewed from any angle. Because of this (and since they're not using a backlight, LCD-style) they tend to be battery friendly, which can be a big boon for high end media devices. Like Creative Zen's Micro Photo media player pictured here. More details check here...via trehugger Posted by Hello

Our Product isn't that bad. No...really...

Check out this Washington Post article about how Ionic Air Purifiers aren't all they're cracked up to be. Apparently the process they use to cleanse your air, produces the super-charged oxygen molecule called ozone. In large enough quantities, it can damage the lungs and aggrivate astham. Basically harming the people who are most likely to buy products like this. Ouch. Well, the sharper image wasn't going to take that laying down so there coming out will all kinds of statements saying their purifier is like most hosthold products all of which produce small, trace amounts of ozone.Yeah, sure.

Cell Phone: Motorola iRadio is icoming isoon

Anyways, a Gizmodder was apprently at the music dc policy conference and heard a Motorola rep talking about their iRadio service to possibly be introduced next week. It's going to be a subscription based service ($4-$6 a month) which will enable users to basically download a group of songs to their pc and then transfer to a playback device which will in turn stream stero audio to the users device of choice over USB 1.1. It sounds like it'll be heavily protected but I'm sure it'll be eventually cracked or worked around. Color me intrigued. check out the Gizmodo post here

Gadget: The feel good gadget of the day...
This is what I'm talking about, the last thing I need when I'm doing my "bidness", is to be doing my "bidness" on a cold seat. Heck, it even comes with adjustable temperature, pressure, and pulsation (what the?!?). I'm just glad it comes with a wall mountable remote. For the more serious "bidness" I usually need both hands to hunker down so it's good to know I can stick the remote up on the wall for in case a need to make a quick slap at it. Too much information, probably. But the world needs to know. more details here Posted by Hello

With all this Ajax hype going on right now, I'm not surprise but glad to see this new Microsoft kbase article on doing dynamic web page update using XMLHTTP.   Gadget: Philips RC9800I remote is the shizzle for rizzle (yeah I said it)
Philips is due to release this monster of a remote. It supposedly is compatible with any TV so if you drop the remote under the couch and are too lazy to go dig it out (like me), stay lazy! Just go out and buy this bad boy. The RC9800I comes with a 3.5" color touchscreen and can communicate thru either infrared and wi-fi. It's capable of generating over 1100 infrared codes and is able to learn those codes by communicating directly with the infrared device. I plan on taking this down to Best Buy or Circuit City and just mucking with the whole tv wall system they have going on. Good times. more info herePosted by Hello

Gadget: Fossil fits PalmOS into wrist watch
i4u has a review of the Fossil Palm-Os powered wrist watch. It's cool that you can have pda functionality on a watch (it even comes with a toothpick holder!) but I don't think this'll be replacing any PDAs any time soon. Why get this watch if you already have a pda? and why not get a PDA instead of this watch, which costs $249 by itself? This might be kewl for the college or even high school set since it would give them a way to get Palm functionality (even syncs with your PC Outlook) on your wrist. I don't get warm fuzzies from this one but I would probably get one as a gift for someone. Check i4u's review herePosted by Hello

  Tech: Seiko prototype e-Ink watch
This sucker sure is purty. From Gizmodo comes this pic of a Seiko protoype on display at a watch and jewlery show in Switzerland. It uses e-Ink to constantly change the display. I wonder if this could lead to a type of customizable dynamic watch where you could set the background or add some kind of calendar functionality to it. Either way, this display look dang slick. Posted by Hello

Forbes has a review of RIM's 7290 Blackberry (for use with T-Mobile). It's sporting a better browser (thank gawd, the older browsers were frickin gorrible), support for a wider variety of email attachments and Bluetooth support. It's also supposedly able to automatically sync with your PC. If someone changed something about meeting you had scheduled in Outlook, you would see that changed without having to dock anything.   PC: Half-Life Expansion to make your PC obsolete
Sounds like the Half-Life 2: The Lost Coast expansion is going to be pretty awsome. If you have an expensive rig. They're recommending at least 1gig of RAM, a 3.2Ghz processor and a good high end card. But who goes with the minimum. I'm guessing if you have that now you'll be able to run the game but it might not be the best performance. I think I'm going to wait to upgrade and just buy a whole new rig in a few years. Wonder what the games will be like then...yeah right, I can't wait that long.
The expansion is going to include some kewl lighting affects. When you've been in the dark and you suddenly go into the light it'll take a couple of seconds for your "eyes" to adjust and vice-versa. More details here.

Tech: Wireless USB 1.0 coming sooner or later

Hope this gets approved soon, I hate switching cords between my printer and external hard drive, making sure to safely remove the USB device each time. Why not by another cord you ask? Rubbish!

G!! No, not really. Seriously, it has obtained the PG-13 rating. Lucas isn't going to water the movie down to ensure a PG, he's going to let it ride. Hopefully, this means that the movie is going to be pretty instense. I guess as intense as a PG-13 movie can get. Details here.

Tech: do you 1337 speak n00|3?
If you're looking at my title and thinking I must have been engaging in some form of some fine crack, fret not. It's just a way for computer techies/nerds to have their own language so they can mock you without fear of retribution. If you're a parent and you think your child might be a 1337 5ea|< 3 p\ (leet speaker) and you want to know what the hell they're talking about, see here. It's a noobies (someone of little or no experience) guide to leet speak. For all you already in the know, we don't have much longer until they figure out what we're talking about! Coverse while you still can!!!

Tech: "You're telling me we don't get French benefits?"
In continuing their quest to "not be evil", Google co-founders requested pay cuts down to $1.00 in the second quater of 2004.   Games: Xbox games to keep coming thru 2007
Even with it's expected next-generation Xbox speculated to debut sometime late this year, Microsoft stated Friday that it's "fully committed to this (current) generation and gamers can expect an amazing pipeline into 2007". So Xbox owners can feel safe know that they will still supported for at least a few more years and have something to play if they didn't want to upgrade as soon as the newer system came out. But I bet no Xbox owner would wait past the release of Halo 3... I dare you...check out the article here.

Games: Half-Life 2 coming to Xbox!
This qutoe: "We go exclusively hands on with one of the most anticipated first person shooters coming to Xbox this year! I wonder if the press people (which I am not...yet...just a lowly blogger ;p) going to the PS3 event, which is to be at 15:00 PST on Monday May 16, will be able to make the Xbox event wich I heard is quite a ways away? Three hours after the PS3 event is Microsoft's Xbox 2 event in downton LA at 18:00 PST. This is be a big pain for the media types Who might have to leave the PS3 event if it begins to run long. Me?   Games: In game ads allow free play
Here come the ads! Grimwell has a post up with some pics on how Anarchy Online is using in-game ads to enable it interested players to play the MMOG free without a subscription fee. Players who choose to play do not see the in-game ads. I hope this takes off so other MMOGs would be able to do the same thing. I would totally dig playing the Matrix Online for free since it's not good enough for me to pay over $2.00 a month for...yet. Posted by Hello

  Games: Microsoft linked to ourcolony.net
Remember when J Allard did his presentation at GDC and he had some screenshots of what Xbox live is going to look like? The gamer profile he had up was a picture of him wearing a shirt with an ant logo on it, pretty much the same ant you see at the our colony website. Now it's pretty much official the Microsoft is linked to the ourcolony.net site so it has to do with the next xbox since when J Allard did his presentation that site didn't even exist yet. Good to know but now I hope people will focus on playing the game itself. Alternative Reality Games (if this is really even one or just an elaborate team vs team game) are so kewl because of the whole supension of belief thing and the fact that this seems to be real life. There not meant to be over analyzed, just played. That said the ARG should be well crafted enough so that it would be very hard for anyone to find any evidence of it not being real. see the picshere

Tech: Want to be a superhero?
If you answered yes to the aforementioned question, lucky for you! the "HAL" (no joke) is going to be available for less than $19,000. Probably $18,999.   Games: PSP offical sales figures
Ok maybe more than 50 people bought the PSP. How was I supposed to know without an official press release? Well, now there is an offical press release. Sony sold 500,000-600,000 PSPs in it's first week of North American sales, generating over $150,000 million for the company. It will probably pick up more steam as more Games and UMDs become available. I will post links to the most popular UMDs sometime later today or tomorrow. Let me know if you want it sooner than that. check out the press release here

Movies: Peter Jackson's King Kong blog
This has been going on for a while but I figured I would post it anyway just to let everyone in case you didn't. It's a pretty cool production diary blog and a great insight into Jackson's process. What I find interesting is that there appears to be less and less of Peter with every new video. I mean this man is going to disappear at this rate, does no one notice? He hasn't said he's on a diet or anything so I have to assume that he is slowing disappearing. I mean does no one care, he did Lord of the Rings for crying out lound. Someone get this man a manwhich! (a manwhich is not a man sandwhich, it's basically a sloppy joe...that doesn't sound much better). Check out the videos here

  Hardware: Hitachi gets downright funky

I whoever thought this up had way too much time on their hands, but I would like to thank them for making this video not oonly educational but pretty amusing as well. dig on this non-jive Flash video Storage here

SOA (Sega of America) has annouced plans to release Phantasy Star Universe for the Playstation 2 and the PC (Windows). It's supposed to have a large 40+ single player campaign as well as a healthy online componet as well. Apparently the online component will allow you to select a different character and build them from scratch. That's a good idea, it'll be like having two games in one! Kind of. The pictures look promising so we'll see how it turns out. check out the pics and videos here.

Hardware: The ATI All-In-Wonder X800 XT reviewed
IGN has an review of the new All-in-Wonder X800 XT which came with 256MB of GDDR3 RAM and has excellent video input and out abilities. It'll even play for favorite radio station. As long as it's not country music, then it spits in your face. Ok I made that last part up. Seriously it's one of the fastest cards for consumers on the market. It'll set you back around $500 but you do get an awsome card. dig on the review here. See the benchmarks here Posted by Hello

Tech: Panasonic's Oxyride batteries..ride the oxy
Panasonic's Oxyride batteries have gotten quite a lot of hype from Panasonic recently and for good reason it seems. They let' out 1.7 volts compared to the 1.5 volts of alkalines. more details available here Posted by Hello

iPod: Snow Jacket merges with iPod
Cool new iPod snow jacket that has the iPod controls integrated into the Jacket. For example you could touch a button on the arm to change the track. That alone is pretty unique and intriguing. This is just what I need, another distraction while flying down snow covered death peak. I'm thinking I'll just wear it around the house, maybe when I'm watering my grass...that way if I get a little to crazy to the house (which is not hard to day) I can still stay dry! Genious...It is a little steep at $3000 but that includes an iPod Phot as well as other man-cessories. check out the details here Posted by Hello

Cell Phone: Sony Ericsson W800i has stolen my techono-lust
The Sony Ericsson W800i has got me in a tizzy and apparently I'm not the only one. I don't know why. It only has a slim and light orange design, a user interface that is pretty smooth, a 2 megapixel camera, MP3/AAC player, Bluetooth, a speakerphone, 500MB of memory and not too shabby audio quality for your music. Imean, besides that, what does it really have going for it? EVERYTHING. This phone is, what the kids say nowandays, pimp. The Sony Ericsson W800i was deemed the coolest phone at cnet.   PDA: Archos Pocket Media Assistant PMA430 reviewed
Cnet has a review up for the Archos Pocket Media Assistant PMA430. To me it seems a bit like it's name, big and bulky. I do think this device points to what will likely be somewhat the norm in the next few years or so. The built in wi-fi, pda functionality and the ability to watch/record video and music. It also comes with a docking cradle featuring A/V-in, A/V-out, and S-Video-in cables to connect to your home-theater devices. The sucker aint cheap though and the performance isn't perfect, with it's predictable battery life issues. check out the review here.

Tech: AOL still trying hard to remain televant
AOL is about to rollout it's internet phone service in more than 40 cities in it's bid to remain important to users in the ever expanding high-speed age. By what the heck are they thinking! If you're going to compete in a new space that already has somewhat established companies, at least be offer something new or be competitive on price. AOl's plans include a $13.99 local calling plan and up to $29.99 for unlimited Nort American calling. But that's only for 3 months, after that it goes up by $5.00. Compare that to Vonage's $25.00 a month for unlimited Nort American calling. Dude, seriously. I think AOL is just trying to dupe the eldery and people not in the Tech-know out of their money.   Cell Phone: Nokia's 8801 for the Americas

Cell Phone: Sprint's IP-A790 phone reviewed
PCmag reviews Sprints Internation phone IP-A790 which is a close relative to Verzion's similar-looking SCH-A790 but is apprently better. With Verizon, you're stuck with using Vodafone's service even when you're overseas. Not so with the Sprint model. If you were so inclined, you could plug in a foreign SIM card to get local rates (which can be as low as $0.10 a minute) instead of paying the expensive International rates (probably the strongest selling point). To check out it's other quirks and why they ratedd the phone a 4.05/5 check it out herePosted by Hello

BAsically Each rubberband holds so much energy and when stretched you can create a trampoline like effect propelling grown men anywhere from 5-8ft in the air. This could be an extreme sport in of itself. Trying to get from one side of your driveway to the other could even be dangerous. We all know dangerous = fun and good times! pic here. If you have a nice, sturdy helmet and get plenty of calcium (for strong bones of course) order them here:

  RIP Mitch Hedberg
I know this is late but RIP comic Mitch Hedberg. I saw his showcase on Comedy Central a while back and dug him ever since. He will be missed. In his memory he are some of my favorite quotes of his(from WikiQuote)

I had a stick of Carefree gum, but it didn't work. I felt pretty good while I was blowing that bubble, but as soon as the gum lost its flavor, I was back to pondering my mortality.

I like cinnamon rolls. That's why I wish they made, like, a cinnamon roll incense. 'Cause I don't always have time to make a pan. Perhaps I'd rather light a stick, and have my roommates wake up with false hopes.

I opened up a container of yogurt, and under the lid it said "Please Try Again" because they were having a contest I was unaware of. But I thought I might have opened the yogurt wrong, or maybe Yoplait was trying to inspire me. 'C'mon, Mitchell, don't give up. Please try again. A message of inspiration from your friends at Yoplait. Fruit on the bottom, hope on top.'

I like baked potatoes, man. I don't have a microwave oven; it takes forever to cook a baked potato in a conventional oven. Sometimes I'll just throw one in there, even if I don't want one, because by the time it's done....who knows? I'll throw a potato in and go on vacation.

You know that Pepperidge Farm bread, that stuff is fancy. That stuff is wrapped twice. You open it, and it still ain't open. That's why I don't buy it, I don't need another step between me and toast.

I bought a doughnut and they gave me a receipt for the doughnut. I don't need a receipt for the doughnut - I'll just give you money and you give me the doughnut. End of transaction. We don't need to bring ink and paper into this. I can't imagine a scenario in which I would need to prove that I bought a doughnut. Some skeptical friend... don’t even act like I didn't buy a doughnut, I've got the documentation right here. Oh wait, it's back home in the file... under "D", for doughnut.

I was walking down the street with my friend and he said "I hear music." As though there's any other way to take it in. You're not special. That's how I receive it too ... I tried to taste it, but it did not work ...

I went to the park and saw this kid flying a kite. The kid was really excited. I don't know why, that's what they're supposed to do. Now if he had had a chair on the other end of that string, I would have been impressed. Imagine trying to fly a chair. You'd have to run like a mother*****.

I'm at a hotel room and my friend comes over and he says, "can I use the phone?" I said, "certainly." He said, "do I need to dial nine?" "Yeah, especially if it's in the number. You can try four and five back to back real quick."

Some people say "I don't care if people are white, black, purple or green". Ah hold on now... purple or green? You gotta draw the line somwhere. To hell with purple people! Unless they're suffocatin'... then, help 'em!

I hate turtlenecks. I have such a weak neck. Plus if you wear a turtleneck it's like being strangled by a really weak guy ... all day. And if you wear a turtleneck and a backpack it's like a weak midget trying to bring you down.

Whenever I walk, people try to hand me out flyers. And when someone tries to hand me out a flyer, it's kinda like they're saying, "Here — you throw this away."

I used to be a hot-tar roofer. Yeah, I remember that ... day.
My apartment is infested with koala bears. It's the cutest infestation ever. Way better than cockroaches. When I turn on the light a bunch of koala bears scatter. And I don't want them to, you know, I'm like, "Hey, hold on fellas, lemme hold one of yous... and feed you a leaf."

I bought a two bedroom house, but isn't it my choice how many bedrooms there are? This bedroom has a oven in it. This bedroom has a lot of people watching TV. This bedroom is A.K.A. the hallway. This bedroom's in that guys house. Sir, you have one of my bedrooms. Stay out.

I think Pizza Hut is the cockiest pizza chain on the planet, because Pizza Hut will accept all competitors' coupons. That makes me wish I had my own pizza place. "Mitch's Pizzaria... This week's coupon: unlimited free pizza. Special Note: coupon not good at any of the Mitch's Pizza locations. Free pizza oven with purchase of a small Coke. Two-for Tuesday: buy one pizza, get one franchise free."

I was in downtown Boise, Idaho, and I saw a duck, and I knew the duck was lost, 'cause ducks ain't s'posed to be downtown. There's nothin' for 'em there. So I went to a Subway sandwich shop, I said, "Let me have a bun." But she wouldn't sell me just the bun, she said that I had to have something on it. She told me it's against regulations for Subway to sell just the bun. I guess the two halves ain't supposed to touch. So I said, "Alright, well, put some lettuce on it," which she did. She said, "That'll be $1.75." I said, "It's for a duck." And they said, "All right, well, that is free." See, I did not know that. Ducks eat for free at Subway! Had I known that, I would have ordered a much larger sandwich. "Let me have the Steak Fajita Sub - but don't bother ringing it up, it's for a duck! There are six ducks out there, and they all want Sun Chips!"

My friend said to me, "You know what I like? Mashed potatoes." I was like, "Dude, you have to give me time to guess. If you're going to quiz me you have to insert a pause."

I was at this casino minding my own business, and this guy came up to me and said, "You're gonna have to move, you're blocking a fire exit." As though if there was a fire, I wasn't gonna run. If you're flammable and have legs, you are never blocking a fire exit.

PDA: RIM to Microsoft threats, "Come and get me!!"
The person who was quoted as saying that was me. Seem to be how RIM (Research In Motion) is playing the threats of Microsoft implementing Push technology into it's Exchange server software. Co- CEO, Jim Balsillie believes that their superior customer support and the profit they bring their carrier partners don't really give their customers any reason to strat from the RIM path. read more here.

Games: How can I get into E3 this year?
Since E3 isn't open to the public, you need to be affiliated with the industry. You'll be able to register as an Exhibitor, a Member of the Media, an Attendee or you can recive an invite from one of aforementioned groups. To attempt to register and to get more information, gohere.

Games: Ourcoloy.net - glimpse at Next Xbox?
I don't think my marriage could survive an other ARG (alternate reality game) like ilovebees.com (used to promote Halo 2) ;) But hey, gotta do what you gotta do. Ourcolony.net looks to be the next Microsoft driven ARG seemingly being used to promote the next Xbox. One the ourcolony.net website some of the distorted images seem to contain view of an Xbox-like controller and an Xbox-like power button. You'll need a crew to get through this one though. Apparently this ARG is going to be a bit more competitive, pairing the crews againt each other. So get your clan, family, neighbors, office faculty members together cause it's going to be a long and bumpy ride. At least it will until the countdown ends at 8pm PDT on Thursday, May 12. Four days before Microsoft's big E3 presentation. I highly believe in the use and potential of ARGs. I've been a fan since taking a (small) part in "The Beast" for the Speilberg movie A.I..   Games: J Allard on evading questions....
Based on his evasiveness I'd say that the chances of the next Xbox being backward compatible is slim, slim to none. The guy is good though, I mean:

Is the next generation Xbox going to be backwards compatible or not?

J. Allard: You keep asking a question I’m not going to answer Geoff. Does that satisfy you?

The guy is good!
diggity dig the G4TV video interview here.

  Cell Phone: Motorola gets Shazam'd
Motorola is going to be incorporating Shazam's music recognition software on select future models of it's phones. With the software you're supposed to be able to play music while the software is running on your phone and it's supposed to be able to interpret that and in turn, give you the ability to buy that ring tone.get the scoop here.

Cell Phone: Razr V3 "cutting" it up in Germany...get it?

Movies: Japanese War of the worlds trailer
The Japanese War of the Worlds trailer is out and I must say, this movie is looking better with each trailer. I dig the fact that Senior Cruise doesn't seem to be trying to be the hero. He's not trying to save the world from nasty alien buggers. He's just a man, a man trying to keep his kids alive so they can see the next day. I have a feeling this is going be a one damn fine movie when it comes out. I'll be there, rooting for the under dogs...see the trailer herePosted by Hello

iPod: Duke to new students, "No iPod for you!"
Duke got some attention from the musicophiles when it began ganding out free iPods to all 1600 incoming first-year students but apparently the program (which cost Duke around $500,000) was just an experiment. They're no longer going to be handing out free iPods to any new first-year students. Only the students who are taking classes that require them will be getting the free schwag. Full article here.

Games: PSP sold close to a million??
No, not really. According to this report, Sony sold 600,000 to 700,000 units during the PSP's first week of US release. Sony had prepared to sell 1 million the first week while the Nintendo DS was to have shipped 6 million units by the end of March. granted the DS was released a lot earlier but Nintendo is looking pretty good right now regardless. I think the PSP sales will begin to pick up once people have had a chance to see all the things that can be done with it. The DS also has some promising looking wireless title that could propel it even further in front of Sony. Might this point to Microsoft possibly having an edge coming out with the Next Xbox before everyone else releases their next-gen devices? Time will tell.

Movies: Michael Bay to helm Transformers?
Michael Bay is apparently in talks to direct Transformers. I think that this would be an awsome movie for movies sake. Every movie he's made has been entertaining as hell and that's what this needs to be. The release date has been set at November 17, 2006 even without a director attached yet.

PDA: PalmOS on Treo 650 does not a good phone make?
Apparently the Treo 650 running on the PalmOS is a great PDA, not such a great phone. Allegedly, a senior UK Orange exec whipped out his Treo 650, turned it on for all to see if was loading Windows Mobile 2005. Some camerphones were whipped out but apparently not in time. More details seen here.
