Wi-fi enabled headset might be coming
Via MobileTracker, it looks like SK-Earthlink (the upcoming 3G mobile virtual network operator) might come out with a wi-fi enabled handset allowing users to use Voice Over IP technology when they are in range of a wi-fi hotspot and having the device function as a regular phone when not in range. I don't know how easy or excited the cell phone companies are about this. Letting users use VOIP, while being a potentially big cost benfit to consumers, would cut down on the time they could bill chatters for. I'm all for adding chaos to the system, I hope to see something like this thrown in the mix just to see how everyone reacts. I don't think VOIP is as wide spread as some people make it out to be so the cell phone companies might not be too worried about it yet but we'll see.
